Community Forest Restoration

In May 2026, community members in Kikole Village, Kilwa District, planted 2,000 Mpingo seedlings through enrichment planting as part of the continuing forest restoration work being implemented by Mpingo Conservation & Development Initiative (MCDI) together Kilwa District Council and local communities.
This activity represents a continuation of the joint, ongoing efforts of MCDI and YAMAHA Corporation to restore forest landscapes through enrichment planting, while strengthening long-term community stewardship of village forest resources. Through this sustained partnership, restoration activities are contributing to biodiversity conservation, landscape recovery, and the protection of Mpingo within community-managed forest areas.
MCDI extends its sincere appreciation to YAMAHA Corporation, a long-term private sector partner of the organisation, and to the Otonomori – Forest of Sound Project for their valued and continued support. Their partnership reflects the importance of long-term collaboration in advancing locally rooted conservation action and generating lasting benefits for both people and nature.
This planting effort in Kikole is therefore not a standalone intervention, but part of a broader and sustained restoration commitment that continues to build ecological resilience, support community participation, and promote the long-term recovery of village forests.
